“We plan to recruite a PhD candidate, who is expected to be pro-active with skills and interest across the board spectrum of biomedical and cardiovascular research, and most important, a strong basic knowledge of cardiac and vascular (patho)physiology. This position will be at the Center for Biomedical Research and Translational Surgery and the Department of Neurophysiology and -pharmacology, Center for Physiology and Pharmacology, Medical University of Vienna, Vienna, Austria.
Applicant for a PhD should hold a first-class MSc. English-language skills at level B2 or better are required.
The project is funded by The Austrian Science Fund (FWF) - Role of Tenascin-C in dystrophic cardiomyopathy P 35542 Einzelprojekte -.
The main duties of the PhD student is to engage in his/her research studies, which include participating in research projects and mandatory third cycle courses (approx. 10 hrs/week).
The following are considered to be a merit:
1) experience with animals handling
2) knowledge of flow cytometry, small animal echocardiography, RT-PCR, cell culture, Western Blot, histology, genotyping.

Our group use a wide variety of molecular and physiologic approaches and models to study new therapies for inherited and ischemic heart disease. The project will aim to better understand and clarify the role of extracellular matrix proteins, particularly Tenascin C in vascular and cardiac pathologies (fibrosis, systolic and diastolic dysfunction) in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
