The research of Dr. Di Nardo focuses on the structure-function relationship of human aromatase, the enzyme converting androgens into estrogens, with a particular enphasis to its role in the brain and in estrogen-dependent tumors. The project aims to elucidate how the activity of this enzyme is regulated by post-translational modifications, by drugs and xenobiotics starting the study from the molecular level up to cellular models, in close collaboration with different research groups.
The methodologies used range from spectroscopy (UV-vis, IR, circular dichroism and fluorescence) to x-ray crystallography.
